On Friday, January 10, ITL participated in the meeting of the Italian Working Group of Zero Emission Trucks (ZET) at Bologna Interporto. The initiative is promoted by the European Climate Foundation and aims to develop a public strategy to eliminate freight transport emissions by 2050.
Nearly 25% of CO₂ emissions in the EU come from transportation, particularly road transport, with heavy vehicles alone contributing 7.5% of the total. Therefore, ZET aims to promote policies and technological solutions that facilitate the transition to electric or hydrogen-powered vehicles.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities for decarbonizing logistics, with a particular emphasis on freight transport. Topics addressed included Italian and European regulations on electric transport, the economic sustainability of electric road transport over medium and long distances, infrastructure needs, energy production models, intermodality, and the actions undertaken by Bologna Interporto in this field.
Thanks to a strong collaboration between institutions, companies, trade associations, and local organizations, the ZET’s Italian Working Group continues to work on accelerating the transition to zero-emission road transport, aligning with European goals.
