It is with great enthusiasm that we announce the commencement of the Food4CE project, officially launched on March 1, 2023. This ambitious three-year project, funded by the INTERREG Central Europe Program, aims to revolutionize food networks in Central Europe to make them more sustainable and accessible.
The Institute for Transport and Logistics (ITL) is proudly involved in this far-reaching project and plays a key role as the leader of WP3 – “Support for the Definition of Policies for Alternative Food Networks and a Strategic Planning Framework.”
One of the primary challenges that Food4CE addresses is the enhancement of the efficiency of alternative food supply chains (AFNs). These networks offer significant advantages, including the ability to provide fresher food, reduce supply chains, and support local farmers. However, the logistical complexity and the need to coordinate activities among various stakeholders necessitate the development of innovative tools and resources to optimize AFNs.
Under the guidance of ITL, WP3 has the formidable task of providing a framework of policy support, including the review of relevant regional, national, and European policies for AFNs. This process will be crucial in developing a joint methodology for creating regional action plans aimed at supporting AFNs in participating regions. Additionally, ITL will be involved in crafting specific regional action plans for AFN support.
But ITL’s contribution doesn’t stop there. The institute will also be responsible for developing transnational policy guidelines for AFN support, thus contributing to the creation of an environment conducive to the development and sustainability of these food networks.
The Food4CE project represents a milestone in promoting a more sustainable and localized food distribution in Central Europe. With the support of ITL and the other participating partners, we expect this project to bring about significant changes in how alternative food networks are developed and supported.
We will closely monitor the progress of Food4CE and regularly share updates on our website. We are excited to be part of this important initiative to improve access to fresh and sustainable food for all citizens of Central Europe.
