On January 20-23, ITL was in Barcelona for the kick of Shift2Zero, a pioneering project funded by the Horizon Europe program and aimed at revolutionizing logistics through the development of innovative designs and functionalities for mission-specific, zero-emission N1 electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs).
Alongside GRUBER Logistics (Bologna branch) and the City of Bologna, ITL will implement one of the project’s five pilots, focused on developing a new logistics model involving urban transhipment hubs near Bologna’s city center and new tailored vehicles. This will allow refrigerated e-commerce products, such as wine and groceries, to be efficiently stored and transported from Electric Heavy-Duty Vehicles (e)HDVs) onto eLCVs, minimizing emissions and enhancing operational efficiency.
Key takeaways from the Kick-off meeting include:
- Innovation Matrix: The matrix of innovations per vehicle and pilot has been refined and concretized, setting the stage for seamless integration and success.
- Stakeholder Mapping and User Requirements: The process of identifying key stakeholders—such as logistics service providers, local and regional authorities, and researchers—has begun, along with the definition of user requirements.
- Optimization Algorithms: Discussions around the development of modular, swappable vehicle concepts are underway, with a focus on enabling smooth transfers between vehicles and infrastructure.
- Data Requirements Alignment: The process of aligning data requirements across pilots to ensure cohesion and efficiency in data collection and analysis has started.
In collaboration with Iveco Group, Alke Electric Vehicles, which will supply pioneering vehicles, and Cold Car Spa, which will provide specialized fittings, we are dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that will drive a cleaner, more sustainable future for logistics.
