Description

SoNorA (South-North Axis) aims to make the South-North corridor connecting the Baltic and Adriatic Seas more accessible. The project seeks to promote the deployment of a South-North intermodal network as a foundation for regional development in Central Europe through transnational coordination on the network’s nature and key strategic cooperation issues.

SoNoRa includes pre-investment studies for unplanned links and nodes of transnational relevance for the corridor, as well as the development of case studies addressing critical bottlenecks, exploring new solutions to major challenges. Based on these case studies and common cross-cutting issues, transnational tools (such as alternative financing software for logistics nodes) and guidelines are developed.

SONORA brings together key stakeholders from across Central Europe who are directly involved in or impacted by the development of new intermodal transport infrastructure and services. They work together to develop a common network and implement transnational solutions. Specifically, the project verifies the readiness for the deployment of priority planned nodes within the network and updates regional transport planning policies by taking into account the projected corridor flows. Business cases for new logistics services are also developed, along with new synergies among interested stakeholders to facilitate a strong economic zone.

Within the project, ITL contributes in particular to the development of case studies and pilot actions.
