Description

RAIL4SEE (Rail Hub Cities for South East Europe) aims to improve the primary railway transport of 11 cities and their regional context, by enhancing the functions of the secondary railway network that supports it.

To this end, complementary interventions are planned to reduce barriers to integration between railway hubs within local, regional, national, and transnational transport systems, as well as the TEN-T network. This will be achieved through the design of transport services and the improvement of governance among different stakeholders.

The objective is to develop models, measures, and strategies for harmonizing interventions, actions, and policies aimed at enhancing railway transport and intermodality across the entire SEE area. RAIL4SEE activities are based on the sharing and implementation of common concepts for integrating primary railway network stations (railway hubs), drawing from the exchange of European experiences, analysis of best and worst practices, training sessions, and thematic seminars.

Furthermore, the project conducts an analysis to identify key “bottlenecks” and their causes, proposing alternatives for possible infrastructural and non-infrastructural interventions to improve railway service levels.

During project implementation, specific intervention priorities and roadmaps are defined for each metropolitan railway hub. Project results are then shared with key stakeholders through technical sessions and public consultations, aiming to strengthen consensus on possible policies for public railway transport.

ITL supports the Lead Partner of the project by coordinating technical activities.
