NEWBRAIN (Nodes Enhancing Waterway Bridging Adriatic-Ionian Network) aims to strengthen the intermodal logistic hubs of the Adriatic-Ionian system. The project also seeks to address gaps in infrastructure and bottlenecks of a technological, procedural, and organizational nature that characterize these hubs at the local level—limitations that affect the efficiency of the regional transport system.

NEWBRAIN adopts a transnational approach, relying on the cooperation of nine partners, including logistic hubs and key institutions involved in planning infrastructure investments in the transport and logistics sectors of the Adriatic-Ionian area. The project aims to create an Adriatic-Ionian intermodal and logistics network and provide a stable and sustainable framework for cooperation on innovative transport infrastructure and low-carbon transport systems.

The project addresses various infrastructural gaps and technological, procedural and organisational bottlenecks detected at local level and impacting on the smoothness of the regional transport system. Each logistic hub participating in the project develops an action plan to define priority projects in terms of technical and financial readiness. The partners conduct technical studies and propose projects to major European programs to secure funding for infrastructure improvements and enhance the logistic hubs.

ITL is responsible for the preparation of the methodological framework of planned activities, with the support of all partners. In particular, the Foundation carries out two pre-feasibility studies, one of which focuses on the effects of integrating new technologies into the logistics chain.
