Description
MOSES (Maritime and Multimodal Transport Services Based on EA SEA-WAY Project) aims to improve the accessibility and the mobility of passengers across the Adriatic area and its hinterland through the development of new cross-border, sustainable and integrated transport services and the improvement of physical infrastructures.
Despite the successes achieved by the EA SEA-WAY project and other previous initiatives, the lack of connections between Italy and Croatia still hinders stronger cooperation in areas such as economic activities and labor mobility, as well as the exploitation of educational opportunities. Road connections through Slovenia remain the preferred mode of cross-border mobility, which limits cooperation to regions closest to the land border. At the same time, these connections face an increase in traffic congestion, environmental pollution and other negative territorial impacts. To solve these issues, MOSES builds on the results of EA SEA-WAY in order to improve cooperation among relevant organizations, representing five regions from Italy and Croatia, so that maritime and multimodal passenger transport services can be tested and evaluated. The project implements four pilot actions and conducts (pre-) feasibility studies and aims to carry out various interventions, including:
- Activation of new maritime navigation services
- Feasibility studies to improve the infrastructure of certain ports within the program area
- Improvement of public transport services for port area users
- Activation of new information points on intermodal transport solutions
- Activation of new sustainable mobility services for cruise passengers
ITL participates in the pilot action developed in Ravenna, whose main objective is to increase the attractiveness of the port and its hinterland by promoting an efficient transport system that ensures sustainable connections for tourists between the Porto Corsini cruise terminal and the city’s historic center. To this end, during the summer of 2018, an innovative electric bike-sharing service supported by a container transformed into a mobile hub was designed and tested.
