Description

Inter-Connect (Intermodality Promotion and Rail Renaissance in the Adriatic-Ionian Region) aims to enhance intermodal passenger transport, focusing on rail connections between coastal areas and major inland attraction hubs. The improvement of intermodality includes activities aimed at enhancing the integration between railway transport hubs and other transport systems, particularly public road transport and active mobility, such as:

  • Identification of key players in mobility planning and the creation of a cooperation environment (Inter-Connect Transnational cooperation network) where experience and knowledge exchange will take place
  • Development of common understanding of area’s needs, challenges, opportunities and treats and the reaching of an agreement among stakeholders for the direction towards which mobility planning should focus (Action Plan on ADRION intermodality arising from real needs understanding and flows analysis, Detailed Action Plan based on Inter-Connect cases examination outputs)
  • Formulation of a strategic framework for enhancing intermodality in the area and the respective authorities training on how to implement and finance measures able to add on ADRION sustainability (Inter-Connect Strategy-Roadmap with measures in a hierarchical order)

The actions carried out within the project are not infrastructure-based, but rather “soft” measures, and include, among others:

  • Revision and integration of timetables
  • Integrated ticketing
  • Infomobility solutions
  • Accessibility analysis

The actions are identified following an analysis of transport systems in the 8 project study areas: Igoumenitsa (EL), Emilia-Romagna Region (IT), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (IT), Ljubljana (SI), Zagreb (HR), Bar (MTN), Durres (AL), and Belgrade (SRB).

Within the project, ITL coordinates the analysis of case studies and the evaluation of results, with the aim of laying the groundwork for future actions at both regional and transnational levels. Specifically, the case study developed in Emilia-Romagna aims to improve passenger mobility and intermodal connections along the Bologna-Ravenna-Rimini railway link.
