Description

The purpose of INDIMO (INclusive DIgital MObility Solutions) is to support the design of a user-centric digital transport system, in which the needs of all social groups are taken into account, services are universally accessible and inclusive, and safety is ensured. INDIMO aims to extend the benefits of the new and emerging interconnected and digital transport system to people who currently face barriers in using these systems. For this reason, the project will develop a digital, on-demand, and universally accessible transport system that can be used by the widest possible range of people and can offer personalized mobility options tailored to the needs of individual users. The project develops five pilot actions in Belgium, Italy, Israel, Spain, and Germany.

INDIMO has the following objectives:

  • Improve the understanding of user needs in digital transport systems
  • Enhance knowledge of user requirements in personalized digital transport systems
  • Co-create tools to help developers, operators, and policymakers generate an inclusive, universally accessible, and personalized digital transport system
  • Promote the Universal Design approach throughout the entire process of planning and designing digital applications and services
  • Influence future policies by integrating the project results into European, regional, and local policies

Through the co-design of the INDIMO Inclusive Digital Mobility Toolbox, the project enables developers, policymakers, and service operators to include the users’ perspective in managing digital solutions for mobility and delivery.

Digitally interconnected transport systems must meet the following specific requirements:

  • Be inclusive and accessible to all, offering the same benefits to all citizens
  • Ensure that inclusive and accessible services are implemented in multiple locations where user needs, culture, and language may differ
  • Be safe both physically and digitally, especially concerning the security of personal data
  • Assess user needs not only in the context of passenger mobility but also in relation to logistics and delivery services
  • Be easy to use, meaning that both software and hardware components must provide a seamless travel or delivery experience
  • Be designed in a user-centric way through structured collaboration among users, developers, operators, and policy-makers

ITL coordinates the pilot developed in Emilia-Romagna, which focuses on testing innovative freight mobility solutions, promoting citizens’ social inclusion through the use of digital technologies and services. Citizens in the peri-urban areas of Bologna have limited access to transport and commercial delivery services due to the following issues: lack of adequate pick-up or delivery points, low territorial coverage which doesn’t include the entire periphery, lack of internet connection and absence of dedicated network infrastructure at potential hubs (e.g., bus stops, post offices, petrol stations). Thus, the pilot action ims to introduce innovative and digital services to reduce discrimination against citizens living in these peripheral areas.
