Description

IN MOBILITY (Reducing Mobility Poverty in Urban Areas) aims to make mobility accessible and affordable for all citizens, ensuring that the transition towards sustainable urban mobility happens in a fair way and that everyone has access to transport services.

The priority given by the EU to Sustainable Urban Mobility has an unequal impact on disadvantaged citizens. Key challenges for public authorities include:

  • unemployed persons/low-income families whose social life is affected by the lack of financial ability to use any means of public transport;
  • social exclusion caused by people’s inability to afford owning a car or paying for other means of transport;
  • social exclusion of children who cannot attend school or social activities and events
  • obstacles to daily life activities faced by low-income people who use their bike as the main mean of transport and are financially unable to repair them

To mitigate unwanted consequences of sustainable urban mobility systems and reduce “mobility poverty”, the project will focus on:

  1. Transport Availability;
  2. Transport Affordability & Conditions;
  3. Social Exclusion;
  4. Public Acceptance.

The project will improve its policy instruments via:

  • new calls for projects on transport poverty,
  • full integration of socio-economic and just transition measures/criteria of their strategies
  • policy revision making the “transition process” from a system based on facilitating traffic to a system that prioritizes policy goals and citizens’ needs.

As Lead Partner, ITL will coordinate all aspects of the project, including thematic and capacity-building activities, good practice exchanges and study visits. Additionally, ITL will work on developing policy improvements for the Emilia-Romagna Region’s policy instrument.
