Description

GRETA (Greening Regional fREight Transport in FUAs) aims to decarbonize last-mile delivery in the Functional Urban Areas (FUAs) of Central Europe, with the goal of reducing the negative impacts of goods delivery on the environment, road safety, and quality of life in cities. To achieve climate neutrality and make cities more livable and accessible by 2030, GRETA seeks to implement sustainable and easily scalable and transferable solutions in Central European FUAs. These include the use of electric vehicles and cargo bikes near restricted traffic areas, as well as the reorganization of public spaces in the city.

GRETA’s pilot actions can be quickly implemented as “pop-up” measures in combination with existing ones. The solutions, applied in the FUAs of Maribor, Reggio Emilia, Verona, Poznan, and Budapest (with Berlin’s FUA participating as an observer), are financially, environmentally, and socially sustainable. GRETA also provides strategies, action plans, and tools that extend beyond the project’s timeframe.

The objectives will be achieved through:

  • Analysis of freight transport needs in the functional urban areas of the participating cities
  • Experimental actions for sustainable urban transport, focused on the use of zero-emission vehicles, optimization of delivery routes, shared space usage, and the development of new Curb Side Management strategies
  • Supporting policy transition towards sustainable urban transport

As Lead Partner, ITL carries out transnational activities, developing research, pilot & study activities, supporting in stakeholder engagement and involvement, setting up of policies and pilot actions, their implementation and monitoring. ITL is also directly involved in the capitalisation of previous and ongoing projects, as well as in the upscaling and transferring of experiences.
