Description
GO4FAiR MOVE (A cross-sector, multi-level GOvernance framework for FAiR home-to-work mobility in rural areas of central Europe) addresses the challenge posed by the fragmentation of governance models and the lack of coordination between public and private actors in managing mobility needs.
Workers in the territories involved often rely on private cars to reach their workplaces, creating accessibility barriers that limit their opportunities and lead to situations of mobility poverty. Local and regional authorities must reduce inequalities affecting workers in disadvantaged and less developed areas. To this end, the project will draw on the experience, resources and expertise of local public authorities and sectoral agencies to develop an integrated multi-level governance approach based on the principle of “mobility as a right.”
To achieve this objective, we will promote a more coordinated, data-driven and inclusive public–private approach to managing home-to-work commuting in lagging areas. We will begin with a participatory mapping exercise combining employment, mobility and social data, integrating multiple cross-sectoral data sources.
The project will test governance solutions tailored to the specific needs and barriers of three pilot areas in Italy, Poland and Croatia (the inner areas of the Lower Ferrara region, the Bielsko-Biała district, and the peripheral areas of Varaždin), developing models that can be replicated among partners, across rural areas of Central Europe and beyond. Public authorities will experiment with new forms of collaboration with the private sector as a key actor capable of contributing to the development of solutions in the public interest, with the aim not only of responding more effectively to workers’ needs, but also of leveraging accessible mobility as a driver for territorial development.
