Description
Food4CE brings together nine international partners committed to supporting the development of sustainable food supply chains in Central Europe. The project focuses on optimizing logistical efficiency within alternative food networks (AFNs). AFNs offer numerous benefits, including fresher food, shorter supply chains, and greater support for local farmers. However, they are often more complex to manage than traditional food supply chains, as they require logistical coordination among multiple actors.
To address these challenges, Food4CE develops innovative tools and resources which help AFNs improve logistics efficiency. Additionally, the project creates policy guidelines to support AFNs, providing policymakers with the information and tools needed to create a favorable environment for their development. In doing so, it fosters closer connections between local producers and consumers, facilitating access to fresh and local food.
To facilitate knowledge transfer among various stakeholders, Food4CE is creating five local/regional hubs and one transnational hub in the food and logistics sectors, where operators can exchange best practices and implement innovative technologies. These hubs are integrated into the European network of logistics competence centers, creating a transnational support network for AFNs in Central Europe.
Within the project, ITL is developing a joint methodology and review of regional, national, and European policies. The Foundation also develops an action plan to support AFNs and provides transnational policy guidelines. Furthermore, it contributes to the identification and classification of existing AFNs and develops the pilot action in Emilia-Romagna.
