On September 17th-19th, ITL attended the 2nd General Assembly of the Shift2Zero Project in Bergen, Norway, where Fahad Anwar, Project Manager, and Andrea Bardi, General Manager, had the opportunity to experience a live demonstration organised by the Municipality of Bergen, Paxster AS and DHL Express Norway.

The showcase highlighted how Physical Internet principles of modularity, interoperability, and real-time data sharing can be applied to urban freight operations.

The demonstration focused on:

Geofencing for dynamic control – enabling vehicles to operate within predefined city zones, supporting speed control, safety and congestion reduction;

Traceability – seamless tracking of goods and vehicles across different operators through the app;

Swapboxes in practice – a modular mechanism enabling efficient parcel handovers and load optimization between operators, illustrating the PI vision of standardised and shareable logistics assets.

The live test in Bergen underlined how Physical Internet concepts can move from theory to practical, scalable applications for sustainable and resilient urban logistics, in line with Shift2Zero’s commitment to reduce the environmental impact of freight transport and increase operational efficiency.
