On March 25th, ITL was in Berlin for the Final Conference of the H2CE project, which provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s achievements and included a panel discussion on how Central European regions can prepare for the energy transition through hydrogen.

The highlight was a keynote speech by Jorgo Chatzimarkakis, CEO of Hydrogen Europe, who offered an honest assessment of the road ahead, from global competition to the pace of European policy development, while providing practical guidance for regions taking their first steps in hydrogen implementation.

Alongside the conference, two site visits showcased hydrogen innovation in action. On the first day, partners toured Siemens Energy’s facility, where cells for large Elyzer P-300 electrolyzer plants are produced. On the second day, participants visited the former Berlin-Tegel airport, now home to Urban Tech Republic, an innovation hub hosting startups and companies working on renewable energy, robotics, AI, and drones.

Among them, the project met STOFF2, a startup developing a novel zinc-based electrolyzer that works like a large battery, storing surplus renewable energy and enabling green hydrogen production even when solar or wind energy is not available.

While the project is coming to a close, H2CE has produced a wide range of tools and resources to support regions in advancing their hydrogen transition.

If you would like to engage with the project outcomes, you can find all materials on the official website, where you can also join the network, share experiences, discover new ideas, and connect with other stakeholders.
