On April 3rd, the third online workshop of the GRETA Interreg Central Europe project’s Permanent Working Group took place. The goal of the workshops it to exchange experiences and knowledge on urban logistics with other projects addressing similar topics.
The meeting focused ion sustainable and innovative transport solutions for last-mile delivery in urban centers. During the session, the GRETA pilot activity carried out in Poznań was presented, which addressed the issue of freight delivery in the historical city center. To this end, the project implemented the use of a micro-hub designed to support cargo bikes for last-mile delivery.
Afterwards, CIDAUT presented the electric micro-mobility fleets tested within the Horizon Europe URBANE project for urban freight delivery in Valladolid. Within the scope of the URBANE project, the activities of the Helsinki Living Lab, which tests and evaluates the impacts of using automated delivery vehicles (ADVs), were also discussed. ITL then illustrated the case of the pilot activity being developed in Modena by the Horizon Europe TRACE project. The Modena pilot is currently developing two parallel sustainable logistics solutions: delivery via cargo bikes using the Diagonale Verde, a cycling path built on an abandoned railway line, and the use of drones to transport urgent medical materials between different facilities of the Modena hospital. In particular, the latter includes a simulation in a real 4 km² urban area within MASA, the open-air lab for autonomous driving developed in Modena.
Participants discussed the common challenges faced by the various projects, such as the selection of a suitable pilot site, permit procedures and differing regulations across European countries, the search for operators willing to test the proposed innovations and stakeholder involvement, as well as the scalability and transferability of the solutions.
The workshops are part of a recurring series, held every three months, each focusing on a key theme of urban logistics, with the next one scheduled for June.
