On 5–6 March 2026, ITL attended the Kick-off Meeting of the GO4FAiR MOVE project in Ferrara, funded by the Interreg Central Europe programme and coordinated by the Province of Ferrara, which focuses on home-to-work mobility in rural areas.
The meeting brought together the project partners to officially launch the project activities, define the work plan and share roles, responsibilities and next steps. During the first day, partners introduced their organisations and discussed the project’s objectives, which aim to address the phenomenon of transport poverty in rural areas, where the lack of coordinated transport solutions between public services and employers often forces workers to rely almost exclusively on private cars.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the organisation of the first project activities, the project governance structure, reporting procedures, and the communication and dissemination plan.
Among the core activities of the project is the development of Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) tools, which integrate geographic information systems with participatory processes and local community knowledge. Through these tools, citizens and workers can directly contribute to mapping mobility needs and take part in decision-making processes.
The PPGIS approach specifically aims to increase public engagement in planning processes, improve transparency in spatial decision-making, integrate local knowledge into public policies, support more vulnerable communities, and strengthen the legitimacy of planning outcomes.
Within the context of territorial planning and participatory mobility, these tools can be used, for example, to map perceived safety in public spaces, identify mobility barriers, locate community assets and services, highlight environmental risks, and support neighbourhood regeneration processes.
The project therefore aims to develop new cooperation models between public authorities, businesses and citizens, with the objective of ensuring more equitable and sustainable access to workplaces in rural areas.
