Shift to rail is one of the main challenges to reach the Green Deal objectives in transport and one of the key issues in the European Year of Rail. However, a modal shift towards rail has not occurred yet. To reverse this negative trend huge investment programs and strategic actions and roadmaps are under implementation. The INTERREG Central Europe project REIF is one of them. During the event we’ll go through the existing and future international policies and measures to accelerate the modal shift and through the REIF project actions implemented; furthermore the voice of the international associations representing industry players will join the debate to deepen the state of the art and their perspectives. Award Ceremony The event will be also the stage for the Award Ceremony of the Shift to Regional Rail Award: we’ll meet the best practices concerning public actions, measures and policies that produced outstanding results and achievements in promoting rail freight transport.

REIF Project in a nuthsell REIF Project aims at increasing the modal share of rail freight transport in particular tackling relevant challenges related to lacking connectivity at regional level, by identifying infrastructural bottlenecks, preserving vulnerable connections and redeveloping closed tracks. Pilot actions test novel approaches to overcome different discontinuities of the regional rail network, resulting in regional action plans defining priorities and potential policy measures. Partners will derive regional strategies to be integrated into regional policy instruments, in order to concretely change the current situation by establishing regional policy instruments and coordination mechanisms.
