On March 26th and 27th, ITL participated in the General Assembly of the DISCO Project, coordinated by FIT Consulting, where we explored cutting-edge solutions for the digital and ecological transformation of urban freight transport. The project examines how cities and logistics operators can successfully implement innovations in urban freight transport.

As coordinator of Work Package 4, ITL has collaborated with the Starring Living Labs in Copenhagen, Helsinki, Thessaloniki, and Ghent to test and implement innovative urban logistics measures, including:

  • Cooperative micro-hubs, lockers and warehouse-sharing models for more efficient urban distribution
  • Data-driven collaboration tools, such as smart contract solutions and urban freight data spaces
  • Freight-efficient urban land use strategies, including curbside management tools and mobile micro-hubs for consolidation

Moreover, DISCO is developing a Physical Internet-inspired approach to create smarter, more connected, and more sustainable urban logistics.

The Implementation Report written by ITL, will also soon be published, offering key insights into:

  • Major challenges and best practices for implementing innovative measures
  • How to successfully engage and manage stakeholders in urban freight projects

This report will be an essential read for cities, logistics operators, and policymakers, as it will provide practical recommendations for navigating the complexities of urban logistics transformation. Furthermore, for those seeking the right tools to assess which measures best fit their context, the Meta Model Suite developed by CERTH will be a key resource.

ITL, Lindholmen Science Park, and the Starring Living Labs are now moving forward with process and impact evaluation, ensuring that DISCO’s results can guide and inspire urban logistics innovation across Europe.
